‘위안부피해’ 송신도할머니를 추모해주세요

美글렌데일서 합동추모제

전쟁중 일본군에 끌려가 성노예의 고초(苦楚)를 겪고 전후 일본으로 건너가 재일 위안부 피해자로서 유일하게 일본정부를 상대로 사죄와 배상을 요구하는 소송을 제기했던 송신도 할머니가 95세를 일기로 세상을 떠나셨습니다.

이로서 한국정부에 등록된 일본군 '위안부' 피해 생존자는 32명이 되었습니다.

여생을 얼마 남겨두지 않은 생존자 할머니들이 눈을 감는 순간까지 "공식사죄, 법적배상"을 외치는 지금, 일본정부는 아직도 '위안부' 문제가 "최종적이고 불가역적으로 해결"되었다고 주장하는 2015년 밀실합의를 이행해야 한다는 억지주장만을 부리고 있습니다.

그러나 2015년 밀실합의조차 먼저 어기고 있는 것은 일본정부입니다. 한일합의가 있은지 채 두달도 지나지 않아, 일본정부는 유엔 산하의 "여성에 대한 차별철폐위원회"에 가서 "위안부는 성노예가 아니었고, 강제동원의 증거가 없다"는 주장을 했으며, 이후 다양한 국제무대에서 같은 주장을 펼치고 있습니다. 즉, '위안부'는 자발적인 매춘부였으며, 일본정부는 14년간 성노예 인신매매 제도를 만들어 운영한 책임이 없고, 할머니들은 피해자가 아니니, 일본정부는 공식사죄도, 법적배상도 할 필요가 없다는 것입니다.

그런데도 한국정부는 애써 일본 외무장관이 대신 읽은 애매한 대리사과가 총리의 공식사죄였으며, 10억엔도 자선금이 아닌 배상금의 성격이라고 우기면서, 할머니들을 기만(欺瞞)하고, 국민을 기만하고, 전세계 10여개국의 '위안부' 피해자들과 지지자들을 기만해 왔습니다.

이제 정권이 바뀐지 7개월이 흘렀습니다. 밀실합의 직후부터 한일합의 폐기, 재협상을 외쳐온 할머니들과 전세계의 지지자들은 한국정부의 움직임을 지켜보며 올해가 가기 전에 발표될 위안부 협상 조사를 실시한 TF의 조사결과를 기다리고 있습니다.

한국정부가, 14년간 지속된 세계최대의 국가주도 인신매매 성노예 제도였던 '위안부' 문제를, 정치, 외교적 이해관계의 희생양으로 만들지 않고, 세계 여성인권문제라는 원칙에서, 국제기준에 맞게 제대로 해결하는 국제적인 지도력을 발휘하도록 우리 모두가 관심을 갖고 목소리를 낼 때입니다.

가주한미포럼에서는 글렌데일 소녀상 앞에서 최근에 돌아가신 송신도 할머니와 지난 2015년 한일합의 이후 세상을 떠나신 모든 할머니들을 함께 추모하는 연말 합동 추모제를 마련하였습니다.

Song Shin-do, who spent 7 years as a Japanese military sex slave during WWII, died in Tokyo where she lived since the end of the war at the age of 95.

Grandma Song was the only survivor in Japan who sued the Japanese government, demanding an official apology and legal compensation for the sexual slavery she had to endure.

"The case eventually went to Japan's Supreme Court, which dismissed her appeal in 2003 on the grounds that Japan had no legal obligaion to pay for her suffering because a 20-year stature of limitations had expired." (click below article to read more...)

Korean 'Comfort Woman' dies in Tokyo, age 95, as issue clouds Seoul-Tokyo ties (Reuter)

The victims at their old age are still fighting and demanding "official government apology and legal compensation" for this largest case of government-led human trafficking and sexual savery that went on for 14 years.

But the Japanese government is repeating like a broken record that the 2015 Japan-S.Korea agreement should be implemented (i.e., silence the victims and erase history without acknowledging Japanese government's responsibility).

Despite the Japanese government's astronomical PR budget for this "History War" as they call it, the world outside of Japan is becoming more aware of the truth of the 2015 backdoor deal that betrayed the principles of the international standards to resolve a war crime and a crime against humanity.

Please join us to remember the Grandmas who have passed away since the 2015 Agreement and raise your voice of support for the Grandmas' struggle towards justice and human rights for ALL women.
