7.27 워싱턴DC ‘코리아 평화집회’ 행진

뉴욕 타임스스퀘어 ‘코리아평화영상’ 유투브 인기

미주 동포들과 평화운동가들이 7월 27일( 정전협정 71주년을 맞아 워싱턴DC에서 코리아 평화를 위한 집회와 행진에 참여했다.

미주한인평화재단(Korean American Peace Fund-KAPF)이 주최한 이날 행사는 워싱턴DC와 뉴욕, 뉴저지 등에서 모인 한인과 타민족 100여 명이 백악관 앞에서 집회를 연 뒤, 링컨메모리얼로 행진을 했다.

참가자들은 "End the Korean War, Korea Peace Now" "For Peace in Korea, No More War Drills" "71 Years Today, End the Korean War Today" "Armistice to Peace, War in not the Answer" "Not a Penny, Not a Nickel, We won't Pay for Your War No More" 등 구호를 외치며 71년 간 계속되고 있는 코리아 전쟁 현실을 알리고, 평화 협정 체결과 종전 선언을 거듭 촉구(促求)했다.

이날 행사에는 코리아피스나우(KPNGN), 미주한인평화재단(KAPF), 미국친우봉사회(AFSC), 우먼크로스DMZ, 베테란스포피스, 코드핑크, 메노나이트 중앙위원회(MCC), 볼티모어 풍물패 한판 등 단체들이 힘을 모았다.

해마다 7월 27일에는 한국과 워싱턴DC를 비롯 세계 곳곳에서 코리아 평화 집회와 행진이 열리고 있다. 한국에서는 ‘한반도평화행동’이 파주 임진각에서 통일대교까지 '무기를 내리고 대화로! 전대를 멈추고 평화로!'를 외치며 행진을 펼친 바 있다.

미주한인평화재단은 앞서 7월 22일부터 28일까지 뉴욕 맨하탄 타임스스퀘어 대형 전광판에 코리아 평화 영상을 올려 뉴요커들과 세계에서 온 관광객들에게 평화협정의 필요성을 널리 알린 바 있다. 아울러 이같은 활동을 소개한 유튜브 채널은 영상 조회 수가 29일 현재 11만 회를 넘는 등 높은 주목성을 보이고 있다.

7/27 Washington DC Korea Peace Action

Hello. On Saturday, July 27, Korean American Peace Fund (KAPF) participated in the Korea Peace Rally and March in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Armistice Agreement.

About 100 Koreans and people of other ethnicities from Washington, D.C., New York, and New Jersey gathered in front of the White House and then marched to the Lincoln Memorial. The participants chanted slogans such as “End the Korean War, Korea Peace Now,” “For Peace in Korea, No More War Drills,” “71 Years Today, End the Korean War Today,” “Armistice to Peace, War in not the Answer,” and “Not a Penny, Not a Nickel, We won’t Pay for Your War No More,” raising awareness of the reality of the Korean War that has continued for 71 years and calling for a peace treaty and a declaration of the end of the war.

The event was supported by organizations such as Korea Peace Now (KPNGN), Korean American Peace Fund (KAPF), American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Women Cross DMZ, Veterans for Peace, Code Pink, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), and Baltimore Pungmul Band Hanpan. Every year on July 27, Korea Peace Rallies and Marches are held in Korea, Washington, D.C., and around the world. The Korean American Peace Foundation has been showing a Korea Peace video on a large screen in Times Square in Manhattan, New York since July 22nd (Monday), and the number of views of the video on its YouTube channel announcing the video has exceeded 110,000.

The Times Square video will be taken down from the billboard after the 28th, but the Korean American Peace Foundation will be airing a video in the middle of Manhattan every year on July 27th in cooperation with the Washington DC Korea Peace Action, wishing for and urging peace in Korea.
