“역사적 진실의 승리이자 할머니의 승리이고, 우리 모두의 승리입니다!!”
일본의 파렴치한 위안부 역사날조(歷史捏造)가 미국 법원의 서릿발같은 판정에 또한번 망신을 당했다. 미연방항소법원(제9 순회법원)이 4일 일본계 극우단체가 소녀상을 철거하라며 글렌데일시를 상대로 한 항소심에서 “이유 없다”고 기각(棄却) 판정을 내렸다.
앞서 미국 법원은 지난 2014년 2월 일본계 극우단체 ‘역사의 진실을 추구하는 글로벌 연합(GAHT)’이 제기한 소녀상 철거소송에 대해 그해 8월 LA 연방지법이 각하(却下) 처분을 내린데 이어 지난해 2월 캘리포니아 1심 법원이 GAHT의 항소심에서 기각한 바 있다.
위안부 소녀상을 건립한 주역인 가주한미포럼의 김현정 사무국장은 “이번 결정은 위안부 역사 날조를 위해 5억달러의 예산을 편성하며 미국 등 해외에서 수단 방법을 가리지 않는 아베 정권의 시도에 철퇴가 내려진 것“이라며 ”승소판정을 계기로 다른 도시에서도 위안부 기림비 등을 건립하고 관련 교육활동을 자유롭게 펼칠 수 있게 되었다“고 의미를 부여했다.
또한 “위안부 피해자들을 기억하고 교육하는 소녀상을 설치할 권리를 지키기 위해 무료변론을 제공한 시들리 오스틴 법률회사의 세계최고 변호사들과 글렌데일 법무팀에게 진심으로 감사드린다”고 말했다.
김현정 국장은 “늘 물심양면으로 지원해 주고 지지해 주신 동포 여러분과 기쁨을 함께 하고 싶다”며 “앞으로 할머니들이 진정한 사죄와 법적 배상을 받고 일본으로부터 국가책임인정을 받으실 때까지 끝까지 함께 해 주실 것을 부탁드린다”고 덧붙였다.

Victory!!! Glendale wins at the Ninth Circuit Court!!! Inbox
This is a victory of the historical justice, a victory of over two decades of the struggle of the Grandmas (the survivors), and the victory of all of us who have been fighting against the Abe administration that has set a $500 million budget to erase this history.
We would like to recognize and thank the awesome members at the City Council of Glendale that stood with the victims and the historical truth from the very beginning, without being swayed by various (and enormous!!) pressure from the Abe administration and the ultra right-wing forces from Japan. THANK YOU, GLENDALE!!
We thank greatly the wonderful team of lawyers from the City of Glendale and Sidley Austin, LLP, for providing a pro bono represtation for the City of Glendale!!

The message is clear: it is correct and worthy to remember the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery by way of resolutions, memorials and other visible means at various US governmental level.
We call on the Japanese government to finally accept its state responsibility for this egregious crime against humanity and work together with the rest of the world to remember and prevent such crimes in the future.
We call on the Japanese government to stop spending exhorbitant amount of money in denying, whitewashing and erasing the history; rather, we urge them to spend it to remember and educate its own people and the people of the world of what they did to the hundreds of thousands of women during its military expansion in Asia Pacific, by erecting its own memorials and building museums so that our future generation will learn from this mistake.
