뉴욕서 찾아가는 한국도서전

북미 콘텐츠 시장 가능성 확인

“K-Book의 가능성 확인했다.”

뉴욕에서 ‘찾아가는 북미도서전’이 개최됐다. 문화체육관광부와 한국출판문화산업진흥원이 5월 29일부터 6월 1일까지 ‘뉴욕 라이츠 페어(New York Rights Fair)’ 행사장 및 뉴욕한국문화원에서 2018 찾아가는 북미도서전(北美圖書展)을 열었다.

뉴욕 라이츠 페어는 전세계 약 100여 개 사의 출판·방송·영화·캐릭터 관계자가 참여한 행사로 올해 처음 개최됐다.

행사 첫 날인 29일에는 뉴욕한국문화원의 협조로 문화원 내 갤러리에서 피칭 데이를 진행했다. 프레젠테이션, 비즈니스 상담회로 구성된 ‘Korean Books to Film’ 피칭 행사에서는 문학동네의 <마당이 있는 집> 등 K-스릴러 중심 21종의 도서가 소개되어 북미 콘텐츠업계 관계자들의 큰 관심을 끌었다.

한국 드라마 굿닥터 포맷을 미국에 판매한 엔터미디어 사(Enter media)의 세바스찬 리(Sebastian Lee)는 “한국 도서들 중 이렇게 흥미로운 이야기들이 많은 줄 몰랐다면서 한국 도서가 지닌 무궁무진한 가능성을 실감했다.”고 밝혔다.

5월 30일부터 6월 1일까지는 뉴욕 메트로폴리탄 파빌리온에서 개최된 ‘뉴욕 라이츠 페어’ 내 참가사 다락원 등 7곳 및 위탁도서 98종을 전시하고 비즈매칭 상담회를 진행했다. 이 기간 중에는 스콜라스틱(Scholastic), 오버드라이브(Overdrive) 뿐 아니라 도서를 영화·드라마화하려는 20세기 폭스(20th Century Fox Film Corporation), 넷플릭스(Netflix) 관계자가 참가해 도서·드라마·영화 판권에 대한 열띤 상담이 진행됐다.

또한 한솔교육, 다락원 등은 스털링 출판사(Sterling Publishing) 및 데모크라시 프렙 스쿨(Democracy Prep School) 등을 직접 방문하여 오피스 미팅을 가지기도 했다. 진흥원은 이번 4일간의 행사를 통해 약 110만 달러의 계약 추진액을 달성했다.

B2B 중심인 찾아가는 도서전은 오는 7월 베트남 호치민, 9월 인도네시아 자카르타에 이어 10월 독일 프랑크푸르트도서전 한국관 운영 기간 중 개최된다. 문체부와 진흥원은 앞으로 국내 출판콘텐츠의 다각적(多角的) 성장을 위한 지원을 아끼지 않을 예정이다.
