전통도예기법에 현대적 회화(繪畫) 양식을 접목하여 도예계에서 큰 호응을 얻고 있는 도예가(陶藝家) 이정협 작가의 개인전이 6일부터 12일까지 맨해튼 첼시에 위치한 스페이스인아트 뉴욕(SIA NY)갤러리에서 열린다.
이정협 작가는 2001년 세계도자기 엑스포와 2005년 세계 도자기 비엔날레에서 무광백자의 '퇴화기법'을 통해서 세간의 이목을 집중시키기 시작한 주인공으로 잘 알려졌다. 도자기 세계에 입문하기 전, 이정협 작가는 26년 동안 회화를 공부했던 이력(履歷)을 갖고 있다.
SIA NY 갤러리는 “26년의 시간이 유약(釉藥)을 통해 그의 도자기 위에 고스란히 표현되는 과정은 도예가로서의 이정협 작가가 가진 그 고유한 멋과 그에 따른 특별함을 부각시켜준다고 볼 수 있다”고 평가했다.
이번 전시회는 오랜 기간 동안 연마해온 회화 기법과 함께 접목시킨 도예기법, 그리고 수많은 세월 동안의 작품활동을 통해 작가만의 특별한 도예기법까지 개발해낸 이정협 작가만의 고유하고도 특별한 작품세계를 뉴욕 맨하탄의 첼시 갤러리에서 만나볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것으로 보인다.

JeongHyup Lee’s Solo Exhibition
SIA NY (511 W. 20th St. 2nd Fl., NY, NY 10011) is pleased to present a solo exhibition of a celebrated artist JeongHyup Lee from July 6 to July 12, 2016. The opening reception is on Thursday, July 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at SIA NY.
JeongHyup Lee is a ceramic artist who uses a traditional pottery method and contemporary painting style to bring ceramics artwork to the next level. Lee became an international star when his taehwa method became a sensational hit at the World Ceramics Expo in 2001 and World Ceramics Biennale in 2005. Before becoming a ceramist, he was a painter studying painting for 26 years. Through this exhibition you will get to experience his unique way of expressions of paintings on ceramics.
