The inter-faith meeting (made up of clergy and young adults), with an opened mind and opened heart, seeks to share and learn about each of the four religions' unique faith, religious practices, and the various personal or spiritual experiences of those committed to engaged in the inter-faith dialogue. Through this sharing of knowledge and experiences amongst the participants, we strive to gain a better understanding and a deeper appreciation for each others' religious beliefs and practices. At the same time, we hope to reflect deeply on our own religious beliefs from different perspectives and using different methods, as well as arrive at newfound realizations about our own spiritual practices. Therefore, this inter-religious gathering and meeting of the four Korean-religions (Buddhism, Won Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestant) is one of the first steps in our path towards faith and truth, as it is also an invaluable way towards finding true friendships and discipleship. This will be an important step, as well as practice, towards growing and nurturing ourselves to be more open, understanding, and conscious people of faith.

This logo of the Inter-religious Young Adult Coalition Retreat was created after careful consideration and deliberation. The logo encapsulates key symbols from all four religions: Buddhism's lotus (the four lotus petals), Won Buddhism's Il-Won (the unitary circle), Christianity's (both Catholic and Protestant) cross (the space in the center part of the logo). Additionally, the lotus petals double as the symbol of fish, which has significance both for Christianity and Buddhism. During the time of the Roman empire, when Christians suffered persecution and their beliefs were under constant threat of repression, the fish symbol served as a secret code for Christians to recognize and communicate with one other, allowing them to continue practicing their faith (the word for 'fish' in Greek is Ichthys or ¥É¥Ê¥È¥Ô¥Ò, which is an acronym for 'Ί¥ç¥ò¥ïῦς ¥Ö¥ñ¥é¥ò¥óός, ¥È¥å¥ïῦ ¥Ôἱός, ¥Ò¥ø¥óή¥ñ' or in English, 'Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior'). In Buddhism, the wooden gong (or also known as 'wooden fish') is in the shape of a fish and is a tool used for Buddhist practices. The wooden gong depicts a fish with its eyes always opened, which is a metaphor for the Budddhist practioners who strive always to keep their mind and heart opened to seek truth.
Therefore, this logo for the inter-religious retreat aims to represent each of the four Korean religions' (Buddhism, Won Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestant) path to realize faith and truth, as well as our collective path towards respectfully sharing and learning from each other as we engage in inter-religious dialogue and continue to strive for inter-religious solidarity.
