The South Korean military will replace national flags made in China with those made by local companies from June 6 or South Korean Memorial Day, a national holiday to honor the soldiers and civilians who gave their lives for their country during the Korean War (1950-1953), reports Huanqiu, the website of China¡¯s nationalistic tabloid Global Times. A senior defense official said on June 3 that the ROK Armed Forces became aware in late May that the national flags purchased through governmental procurement were made in China. Figures showed that South Korea purchased around 9,000 Chinese-made national flags in 2013 and 15,000 this year, the report said. 6¿ù 3ÀÏ ÇÑ °íÀ§ ±¹¹æºÎ °ü¸®´Â Á¶´ÞûÀ» ÅëÇØ ±¸ÀÔÇÑ ±¹±âµéÀÌ Áß±¹»êÀ̶ó´Â »ç½ÇÀ» ´ëÇѹα¹ ±¹¹æºÎ°¡ ¾Ë°Ô µÈ ½ÃÁ¡Àº 5¿ù ¸»À̶ó°í ¸»Çß´Ù. º¸µµ¿¡ µû¸£¸é Çѱ¹Àº 2013³â¿¡ ¾à 9,000 °³ ±×¸®°í ¿ÃÇØ 15,000 °³ÀÇ Áß±¹»ê ±¹±â¸¦ ±¸ÀÔÇß´Ù.
Well over 1 million Chinese troops fought on the side of North Korea against the South and mostly American troops fighting under a UN mandate. It is therefore something of an irony that the South Korean military¡¯s national flags should be produced in China. ¹é¸¸À» ÈξÀ ³Ñ´Â Áß±¹ ±º´ë°¡ ºÏÇÑ Æí¿¡¼ ³²ÇÑ ±º°ú ´ëºÎºÐ ¹Ì±ºÀ¸·Î ±¸¼ºµÈ UN ¿¬ÇÕ±º¿¡ ´ëÇ×ÇØ ½Î¿ü´Ù. µû¶ó¼ ³²ÇÑ ±º´ëÀÇ ±¹±â°¡ Áß±¹¿¡¼ »ý»êµÈ´Ù´Â °ÍÀº ¹º°¡ ¾ÆÀÌ·¯´ÏÇÑ ÀÏÀÌ´Ù.
Although there is no law prohibiting the use of flags made overseas, the decision has been made to replace them. ºñ·Ï ÇØ¿Ü¿¡¼ Á¦ÀÛµÈ ±¹±âÀÇ »ç¿ëÀ» ±ÝÁöÇÏ´Â ¹ý·üÀº ¾øÁö¸¸, ±¹±âµéÀ» ±³Ã¼Çϱâ·Î °áÁ¤ÀÌ ÀÌ·ç¾îÁ³´Ù.
A South Korean flag made in China is estimated to cost around US$13, Huanqiu said, while it is significantly more expensive to manufacture them domestically — as much as US$124. It is estimated the ROK Armed Forces will have to spend US$12.6 million to replace all of the flags. ȯ±¸¿¡ µû¸£¸é, Áß±¹»ê űرâ´Â °¡°ÝÀÌ 13´Þ·¯(1¸¸4600¿ø) Á¤µµÀÎ ¹Ý¸é, ±¹³»»êÀº 124´Þ·¯(13¸¸8000¿ø) Á¤µµ·Î »ó´çÈ÷ ºñ½ÎÁø´Ù.
