반크 대한민국 꿈 담은 영문지도 공개

 

 

 

 

 

여러분은 한국의 해양(海洋) 영토(領土)에 대해서 얼마나 알고 계시나요?

 

삼면에 바다로 둘러싼 대한민국의 해양 영토의 총면적은 한반도 남부로만 국한해도 44만3838㎢로 육지 면적(약 10만㎢)의 4.5배입니다.

 

하지만 한국의 초중고교 교육현장에서는 해양 영토와 해양 의식을 높일수 있는 교육은 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있는 상황입니다.

 

반면에 이웃나라인 일본과 중국은 청소년과 청년들의 해양 의식 촉진을 위해 국가 정책으로 교육을 추진하고 있으며 전국 각지에 센터를 설립 운영하고 있습니다.

 

우리가 해양 영토에 대해 무관심하고 있는 사이에 일본과 중국은 적극적으로 해양영토에 대한 중요성을 국민들에게 알리고 있으며 이를 바탕으로 전세계에 해양 영토를 알리고 있습니다.

 

구글사이트에서 한국을 검색하면 해외 사이트에 검색되는 대부분의 지도에는 한국의 해양영토는 반영(反映)이 안되고 있으며 외국 정부기관, 세계사 교과서, 지리교과서에 등장하는 한국 소개 지도 또한 한국의 해양영토는 소개가 안되고 있습니다

 

대표적으로 미국 중앙정보국(CIA)의 한국지도에는 한국의 해양영토를 대부분 소개하지 않고 있지만 일본과 중국은 바다 영역을 크게 그려놓았습니다.

 

특히 일본 지도에는 일본의 해양영토를 일본 정부가 주장하는 것처럼 광범위하게 소개하고 있습니다.

 

또한 CIA는 독도, 동해도 왜곡해서 소개하고 있습니다.

이에 따라 반크는 우리나라 해양 영토가 제대로 그려진 영문 한국 지도를 제작해 전세계에 알려나가고자 합니다.

 

반크가 이번에 제작한 영문 한국 해양 영토 지도는 한국의 해양영토 대부분이 소개되어 있습니다.

 

특히 이 지도는 바다의 영어 단어인 Ocean 을 통해 바다를 향한 한국인의 꿈과 도전을 전세계인에게 소개하고 있습니다

Ocean 의 E는 해양환경(Eco-friendliness) 보전

★ 동양(Orient) 평화를 이루어나갑니다.

 

20세기초 한국의 바다는 아시아 패권을 차지하기 위한 청일전쟁과 러일전쟁이 일어나 수많은 사람들이 목숨을 잃은 아픈 기억들이 있습니다. 21세기 한국은 한국의 바다를 ‘패권’과 ‘침략’의 통로가 아니라 세계의 ‘평화’와 ‘화합’의 길로 만들어 동양 평화를 이루어나갈 것입니다.

 

★ 도전(Challenge) 정신으로 역사를 만듭니다.

 

일제 강점기와 6.25 전쟁을 겪은 한국은 1950년대 세계에서 가장 가난한 나라였습니다. 하지만 도전의 상징인 해양 문화를 적극 수용해 바닷길을 넓혀 나갔고 전세계와 적극적인 무역을 추진하여 기적적인 경제발전을 성취했습니다. 오늘날 한국의 번영은 바다를 향한 한국인의 도전 정신이 있었기에 가능했습니다.

 

★ 국가적으로 해양환경(Eco-friendliness) 보전을 실천합니다.

 

지구는 급격한 기후변화와 해양오염으로 신음하고 있습니다. 해양생물 멸종과 생태계 파괴는 인류가 해결해야 할 시급한 과제가 되었습니다. 삼면이 바다인 한국은 서해는 연안습지를 보전하고, 남해는 도서 해양생태를 보전하며 동해는 해양생태를 보전하는 등 국가 정책으로 해양환경을 건강하게 보전하고 있습니다.

 

★ 바다의 꿈(Ambition), 해양문화대국으로 이어집니다.

 

한국의 울산에는 7천 년 전 바위에 새긴 고래 그림인 반구대 암각화가 있습니다. BBC가 인류 고래잡이 역사의 시원(始原)이 한국의 반구대 암각화라고 소개할 만큼 한국은 인류사적으로 해양문화 발전의 중심지였습니다. 해양문화대국의 꿈은 고조선, 고구려, 백제, 신라, 발해, 고려, 조선을 거쳐 오늘날 대한민국으로 이어지고 있습니다.

 

★ 세계를 연결(Networking)하여 더 나은 미래를 만듭니다.

 

지구촌은 바다로 연결되어 있습니다. 지구온난화(地球溫暖化)로 북극항로가 열리면서 한국의 바다는 동북아시아와 유럽을 연결하는 북극항로의 중심이 되고 있습니다.

 

한국은 바다를 품고 지구촌의 더 나은 미래를 창조할 것입니다. 아시아의 중심, 동북아의 관문, 전세계 모든이들과 꿈과 우정을 나누는 나라 대한민국을 만들어나갈 것입니다 .

 

반크는 이번에 제작한 해양문화대국 대한민국의 꿈을 담은 영문 한국지도 1만부를 반크의 사이버 외교관, 글로벌 한국홍보대사들에게 배포하고, 전국 시도 교육청 반크 교사 연수 특강에 참여하는 교사들에 제공할 예정입니다.

As marine biodiversity is declining, revitalizing the marine ecosystem has become an important task for humanity.

 

Surrounded by the ocean on three sides, Korea is committed to preserving rich marine life by protecting the wetlands and mudflats along its western coast and the marine ecology along its eastern and southern coasts.

 

Ambition: Pursue the lasting ambition of leading a global maritime culture.

 

The Korean southern city of Ulsan has world-famous petroglyphs of whales from seven thousand years ago.

 

Known as the Bangudae Petroglyphs, it was described as the first evidence of whale hunting in a BBC report.

 

The petroglyphs are just one of the examples of Korea’s advanced marine culture throughout history. Through its ventures into the ocean, Korea developed its rich culture from Gojoseon, Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla, Balhae, Goryeo, Joseon, to Korea as a global cultural force today.

 

Networking: Build a better future for the global village through networking.

 

As global warming has opened sea routes to the North Pole, the ocean around Korea has become the hub that connects Northeast Asia and Europe. Like oceans that connect and embrace everything in the world, Korea will connect the world across the ocean and build a better future for the global village.

 

Korea will become the center of Asia, the gateway to Northeast Asia, and a network of global friendships.
